Tips for Better Family Organisation

Does it ever feel like managing your family’s schedule is a full time job? Our new Family Calendar is here to help you get everyone organised, with spaces for everyone’s appointments and activities. Hang it somewhere everyone can see and love the calm feeling that comes from knowing that you’re on top of everything for the week. To get you started, here are a few of our top tips for keeping the whole family organised.

Encourage everyone to get involved…

By keeping your Family Calendar in pride of place in your home, everyone will be able to use it as a bible for activities, appointments and tasks. Encourage the kids to take accountability for their own time by having them write their own schedules. It’s a great way to teach kids to be responsible for their own time as well as enable them to prepare for any upcoming events like holidays, birthday parties and school tests.

Check in once a week…

Your Family Calendar can be as effective as you make it so ensure you check in at least once a week to ensure yours is up to date. Take a few minutes out on a Sunday to evaluate the week ahead and make sure there are no clashes or surprises. Use the stickers inside to mark out important dates so everyone is aware of them.

Set a coming home routine…

Encouraging each family member to spend 10 minutes carrying out a set routine when they walk in the door is a great way to ensure better organisation. Doing the same little things each day encourages good habits and teaches that tidying up and getting organised is everyone’s responsibility. The kids’ routine could include things like setting aside homework, leaving their shoes neatly and hanging up coats and jackets. These little things done every day will make such a big difference to your home.

Prepare the night before…

Following on from the previous point, encourage everyone to spend 10 minutes before they go to bed making sure they are organised for the next day. You’ll love how streamlined mornings become when homework is packed away, gym kits and lunches are ready and clothes are already picked out.

Assign chores…

Setting expectations and rewarding chores completed is a great way to teach kids to get involved and take responsibility. Use our Weekly Chores List to write down age appropriate chores for each member of the family as well as the reward they will get once these are done.

Plan fun family activities…

All this hard work deserves a reward. Use the Family Calendar to pencil in regular family outings so everyone has something fun to look forward to, while making sure the whole family spends quality time together.
