Sleep is one of the most important factors in feeling good, functioning at your best and living a life you love. Sleep influences our mood, productivity, decision-making and overall enjoyment of life. Did you know that adults need, on average, 7–9 hours of quality sleep each night to recharge, restore and re-energise? But many of us are regularly going without enough. For me, creating a healthy sleep routine has been a process, and one that I’m still working on!
I’m someone whose mind runs a mile a minute and I often get into bed and start thinking about all the things I need to get done the next day, as well as countless other ideas, goals and random thoughts. Not to mention regular work travel and having a young family! Sometimes in the past, a proper night’s sleep would fall to the bottom of my list of priorities but I’ve learnt that it’s absolutely essential in providing me with enough energy to achieve all the things I want to. That’s why I’m so so passionate about our newest collection, More Sleep Please, which is full of really useful tools and gorgeous home accessories.
To celebrate the launch, I wanted to share a few of the tips I’ve discovered over the years….
Get your Thoughts out on Paper
For a long time now, I’ve kept a journal by the side of my bed so I can write down the random ideas and thoughts that pop into my head when I’m trying to sleep. Getting them out on paper means you can clear your mind, safe in the knowledge that everything is captured and you can check back in tomorrow. Our new Can’t Sleep Notepad even has glow in the dark ink so you can use it in the middle of the night!
Move your Body
Research has shown that regular exercise can help you sleep better, as well as help you stay more alert and focused during the day. That’s why I try to incorporate a regular morning yoga routine and walk as often as possible. I also try and steer clear of exercising at night as the rush of endorphins can make it harder to wind down.
Sleep Restore Tablets
When I travel internationally, I love using Dr Libby Weaver’s Sleep Restore tablets. Unlike chemical-filled sleep tablets, these simply contain the benefits of natural ingredients like chamomile and magnolia to help you relax and drift off.
Embrace Routine
When you’re mindful of your night-time routine, it’s so much easier to clear your mind. Doing things like having a screen cut-off time, taking a warm bath, drinking herbal tea and writing in a journal can really help you relax. Our new Sleep Journal is perfect for helping you embrace a mindful routine. There’s space to record your sleep habits and write down dreams, plus it’s full of tips and activities to help you understand how to improve the quality of your sleep.
I really hope the whole collection helps you embrace the importance of sleep and of fuelling your energy levels in turn. Be sure to share your own sleep tips with me on social media with #kikkiKLove.
