Life can get pretty full sometimes, especially with all the weird and wonderful things this year has thrown at us! However, it is during these exact times that it’s more important than ever for us to ensure we’re connecting meaningfully with our loved ones, our families and also connecting with ourselves.
From embracing creativity to making time for meaningful conversations, there are so many ways you can do this – and the key is to try to do it without a screen in sight (if you can!)
Keep reading to explore some of the ways our kikki.K team are doing just that – then, why not give some of them a try yourself?
Pick up your pen and journal, and write!
‘Each evening I am journaling about my day and picking out three highlights…’ – Kristy, Creative Content Manager
When we think of journaling we often think of deep reflection, working through challenges and recording thoughts and ideas to help us clear our mind and find clarity. And while all of this is exactly what putting pen to paper is all about, there’s no reason you can’t have a little fun with it as well – it doesn’t have to be overwhelming.
You could write about your day – your highlights, lowlights, what you’re grateful for, what made you laugh, what you saw, what you did. Enjoy the process and have fun with it. Reconnect with yourself for this moment in your day and express how you feel. The benefits of a daily journaling practice are truly endless, so give it a try.

Embrace a little creativity with your loved ones
‘I’m getting creative with my son and building an album.’ – Glenn, Data Analyst
A truly wonderful way to connect with others is to create something together. Switch off the television for a night (or even a whole weekend – what a challenge!) and ask your family, housemates or friends to pop their phones in another room. Then, think about something you can all create together. It could be a puzzle, a meal, or a gorgeous DIY Album for you to reflect through memories and moments shared together. Whatever you choose, enjoy this time together and enjoy the feeling of building something together.

Take some time out to do something you enjoy
‘I’ve loved having more time to read, learn and feel inspired by others.’ – Kate, eDM Coordinator
We all know what it’s like when days, weeks or even months go by without us making time for that all-important ‘me time’. We feel less connected, less in touch with ourselves. It can affect our mood, our energy and our ability to be there for others. If this sounds familiar, open your calendar, diary or schedule now and plot in some time for you – just you!
Then, think about what you love to do – read, journal, learn, sleep, exercise, meditate, listen to music, listen to podcasts, bake, whatever – and use this allocated time to do that. You’ll feel so much better when you do. And remember, it doesn’t have to be a whole day or even a few hours – we’re all busy after all! It can be half an hour here and there that you simply dedicate to reconnecting with yourself.
Start a conversation* (in-person if you can!)
*NOTE: this activity may not be entirely offline, and that’s okay!
While it sounds like the simplest thing in the world to do, having a meaningful conversation is one of the most wonderful and beneficial ways to connect with another human being. And, at kikki.K, we truly believe human connection and taking the time to check in with each other is vital to living a happy and healthy life.
So, no matter what is going on in your life or in the world, remember to make the time for these conversations in your busy schedule. Pick up the phone and call an old friend (yes, using the phone for this purpose is okay!), be present and speak to your immediate family or loved ones under the same roof, have a video chat with a group of friends if they’re far away, host a a dinner party (do it virtually if you can’t be together physically) or go for a walk with a friend or family member if you can. Talk about how you’re feeling, ask them how they’re feeling. Share dreams, ideas, experiences and connect. Take care of each other by reaching out and checking in (from a safe distance of course).
If you’re looking for a little helping hand in starting a meaningful conversation, we’ve put together some great conversation starters in this blog article below:
