This Sunday, March 25th is Våffeldagen (Waffle Day) in Sweden and we love celebrating by making these tasty waffles for breakfast. Of course, you can enjoy them for lunch or dinner too! Why not try this simple recipe and bring a little Swedishness into your day?
Ingredients:
1 egg
90 g / ½ cup butter
200 g / 2 and a quarter cups flour
¾ teaspoon baking powder
300 ml / 1 cup milk
75 g / ⅓ cup sugar
Fruit and whipped cream to taste
You will need a Swedish waffle maker.
Method:
Preheat your waffle maker. Put the flour, baking powder, sugar and the milk in a bowl and mix them together. Melt the butter slowly in a separate saucepan, make sure it doesn’t get brown. Slowly beat butter into the mixture, ensuring a smooth consistently.
Grease both sides of the waffle maker with a fine layer of melted butter. Drop about five tablespoons of the mixture onto the middle of the waffle maker, then close. Push on the top of the lid to ensure the mixture is well spread across the waffle maker then cook for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
Put the waffle on a plate and decorate with your fruit and whipped cream.
