Living more mindfully isn’t something that happens all at once. Finding little ways to be more mindful is an ongoing process and one that can have huge benefits for your health and overall wellbeing. That’s why at kikki.K, we love these little exercises we can use throughout the workday to help us refocus while boosting positivity and creativity. Why not try adding some of these to your workday this week?
One Minute Breathing
The great thing about this exercise is that it can be done anywhere, even if you’re too busy to leave your desk. All you have to do is focus on your breathing for one minute. You could try closing your eyes or focusing on a positive Quote Card. Slowly breathe in and out, allowing the breath to completely fill your lungs. Don’t worry if your mind starts to wonder, simply bring it back to your breath slowly counting in and out. Picture the positive energy fill your body and negative energy leaving as you slow down and take a moment for you.
Moving Meditation
During your workday it probably won’t be convenient to do a yoga flow in the middle of the office but why not head outside and take a 5-10 minute walk? Even when you’re busy, this little exercise can help you clear your mind and return with more positivity and productivity. As you walk, try to leave the stresses of the day behind and simply observe the world around you. Notice the sound of the birds, the sunshine and the people outside. You never know, your best ideas might come with some fresh air and a clear mind.
Touch Points
Sometimes a physical cue is a great way to remind you to stop and appreciate the things around you. We love the idea of adding something to your desk that you can pick up and use as a physical mindfulness exercise. Whether it’s a cute copper Canister or a Scented Candle, learn to associate this item with mindfulness, taking a moment at regular points throughout the day to embrace calm and positive energy. Pick up your item and feel the weight of it in your hands. Close your eyes and focus on the texture, smell and feeling of it, completely emptying your mind of all the stresses of the day. It’s a great reminder that no matter how busy we get, there’s always time to appreciate the beauty of ordinary things.
Mid Afternoon Check In
Mindfulness isn’t about never having negative thoughts and emotions. Instead it’s about fully noticing and understanding both the positive and negative and then letting the negative float away. Set yourself a time each day when you always check in and ask yourself what’s going on. Perhaps you take a moment to ponder how you’ve been feeling that day and how productive you’ve been. Simply allow yourself to observe without judgement and then move forward with greater positivity. We love using our Thankful Journal to take 5 minutes to reflect on all the amazing things to be grateful for.
