#90 Mary Li: Mary’s Last Dance & Sacrificing Ambitions For A Bigger Dream To Chase

In this episode, Kristina chats to the inspiring Mary Li, professional Ballet Dancer and Author of ‘Mary’s Last Dance’, the memoir and long-awaited sequel to her husband Li Cunxin’s bestselling memoir, ‘Mao’s Last Dancer’.

Mary’s story is a wonderful example of overcoming adversity and adjusting to and learning a whole new world. After learning that her daughter, Sophie, was deaf and being told bluntly by a specialist, If you both want to continue your careers, then she [Sophie] probably won’t learn to speak, Mary stepped out of the spotlight to focus on her daughter, determined that one day the two of them would have a conversation together. While Mary grieved for her daughter, and for the career she put aside, her sole goal in life was for Sophie to have her own voice.

Be inspired by Mary’s powerful story of continuing to chase a big dream, while sacrificing her own ambitions, for the love of her child.
