Travelling to a new place can be fun, exhilarating, exciting, stressful and overwhelming all at the same time. There’s so much to see, do and experience and you won’t want to miss out on a thing. Not to mention that your time away can also be the perfect opportunity to reconnect with yourself and what really matters in life. If you’re planning your next big adventure, here are some of our favourite ideas to help you make your trip even more memorable.
Plan the essentials
We almost love the anticipation of planning our next adventure as much as the trip itself. Taking some time to research places, activities, accommodation, transport and more means you’ll be able to relax and enjoy a stress-free trip. Take advantage of the time before your trip to research and book things from the comfort of your own home, writing down details and ideas in your Travel Notes. Make sure you have at least your first night’s accommodation booked, as well as any transport, events, restaurants and other things that might get booked up early. That way you can find a balance between planning key things and going with the flow.
Make New Friends
Time spent in a new place is the perfect opportunity to meet people you never would have met at home. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and introduce yourself to strangers. Fellow travellers are usually extremely open to meeting new people and you never know what memories and friendships you could make by being the first to say hello. Getting to know locals is also a great way to get insider tips and discover out of the way places not in the guidebooks.
Travel light (but pack the essentials)
It’s so easy to over pack your suitcase and then spend your trip hauling about a bunch of things you don’t use. Taking some time to think carefully about the things you’ll actually want to use makes it so much easier to pack light, not to mention ensuring you won’t forget anything important. Using a To Do List, focus on packing multi-use items including clothing that can be dressed up and down. Remeber those things you might not be able to easily replace, for example medicines or your favourite beauty products – everything else can be easily replaced.
Take time to reflect
Filling your trip with fun activities is a sure way to make precious memories. Equally, taking some time to just be might end up being the highlight of your trip. Whether you head out into nature or a local coffee shop, sit down with your favourite Journal and let your mind wander. Watch life pass you by and write down your thoughts and feelings. This is a wonderful way to relax and your Journal will turn into a keepsake you’ll love to look back on.
Let go of your expectations
It’s easy to put a lot of pressure on yourself to have the best trip ever. Letting go of this pressure and just taking things as they come will make the whole trip so much more fun. If your train is delayed, why not take the opportunity to sit and write in your Journal or enjoy more time in the local area? Find joy in the little things and don’t stress if your trip doesn’t go exactly to plan. Sometimes not getting what we expected can be the most wonderful thing that could happen as it leaves room for the unexpected. Equally don’t put pressure on yourself to fit in too many activities. Not seeing absolutely every little thing means more time to just wander, unwind and get into the holiday headspace.
